CGS celebrating excellent GCSE Results
Colston’s Girls School is celebrating excellent GCSE results and many exceptional individual performances. The grades achieved illustrates that students can be very successful at CGS whatever their starting point when they arrive at the school.
88.1% of our students achieved grade 4 or above in English and Maths (83.5% in 2017) and we are expecting to achieve a significantly improve Progress 8 score (the current estimate is 0.572, which would mean the students are achieving over a half a grade above expected progress).
The new grade 9 across all subjects is intended to identify students who are performing at a high academic standard. In this context we are very proud of the achievements of Salma Hashim, who each achieved seven grade 9s; Elle Radford, Nimmy Joseph and Nour Tazaoui who all achieved six grade 9s and Maya Dejaegher, Abi Ndosi and Hester Penny who achieved five grade 9s. Jana Ali, Martina Tancock, Kirsty Brocklebank, Lucy Britton and Tegan Rickwood all made outstanding progress between Year 7 and their GCSE results, achieving on average two grades above expectation. All these students have achieved remarkable results.
A number of subject teams produced outstanding performances: 43.8% of Sports Studies, 33.3% of RS students and 18.8% of Music students achieved grade 9. Students in RS, Food and Nutrition, sports Studies, History and English Literature all achieved significantly above expectation. The Maths and Biology teams inspired thirteen students to a grade 9 and the English team continued to be a major strength of the school with 93.3% of students achieving grade 4 or above. Nine students achieved a grade 9 in Chemistry.
The Principal John Whitehead commented that “These superb results are a just reward for all the hard work and dedication of students. It also reflects the efforts the teachers have put into making sure that lessons are personalised and of a consistently high standard. The whole school community is working together to inspire confident, ethical and compelling individuals with the aspiration and qualities to shape a better future for all”.
