With the book by Dennis Kelly and original songs by Tim Minchin, this musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s story, Matilda The Musical is the tale of an extraordinary little girl who uses her talents to take revenge on her unkind parents and fight back against the tyrannical principal of her school. Armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, she dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.

Year 9 student Isabella Bailey performed in the lead role of Matilda and received outstanding reviews. She said “Playing Matilda was my dream role. It was wonderful to be able act, sing and dance with such a brilliant bunch of people”. The dreadful Miss Trunchbull was played by V6 Student Izabella Steele - quite some time was required in the make-up chair before they were ready to go on stage as the fearful Headmistress. She said of the performance “This musical is one of my favourites, I was delighted to be a part of it.”

Head of Performing Arts, Mr Shorrock said “Our cast of talented and dedicated students have worked on this production every week for many months. Thank you to our team of choreographers, stage and lighting technicians, costume department and make up artists. Thanks also goes out to our Art faculty for their help with the set.”

The audience thought the show was fantastic, with reviews such as “It was just like a trip to the West End.” and "I came with four children, 2 in year 7 and the others in years 2 & 5, to watch Matilda on Friday.  We all absolutely loved it.  It was such a professional production.  The children were fantastic and very skilled, the choreography was incredible and set was just perfect.  I will remember it for a long time." We look forward to another high calibre production later in 2023."
